Workers MP Dr Sam Lyomoki has revealed his plans to run for President against National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party Chairman Yoweri Museveni in 2021 when Uganda next goes into polls.
The NRM rebel MP revealed his presidential ambitions a few days after Parliament passed the Age Limit Bill, which President Museveni would later sign into law.
Lyomoki and other NRM MPs were opposed to the bill and voted against it in Parliament.
According to the legislator, over 27 NRM MPs who wish to see a new leadership within the party are behind him.
“We have agreed that it is time for new Movement leaders to stand and offer credible leadership for the country,” he noted.
Lyomoki while declaring his intentions on Friday also warned government officials like the Governor Bank of Uganda Emmanuel Mutebile and Police Cheif Kale Kayihura against inclining with the president to sabotage the economy and people’s rights.
“After taking over power, we shall retire all ministers and permanent secretaries. As for the president, vice, speaker and Chief Justice, we shall give immunity,”
