Uganda Prisons Services has dismissed reports from some sections of the media indicating that city socialite Brian Kirumira aka Brian White renovated Luzira Prison and changed the diet of inmates.
While speaking to UBC TV, Uganda Prisons Spokesperson Frank Baine trashed the reports and revealed that the improvements at Luzira were being undertaken by Uganda Prisons Services.
“The allegation and speculation of him (Brian White) running the prison on behalf of Uganda Government can and will never be true but those who think he is doing so, can prove it,” Baine said.
Baine says, the process for a well wisher to give a helping hand to any government institution is a long one which he doubts Brian White can handle.
“It has been a norm for inmates in all prisons in Uganda to have a change of diet especially on public holidays. It is not true that it the bulls that were slaughtered by Luzira in-mates on Christmas day were donated by Brian White. The bulls were a gift from the Commissioner General of Uganda Prisons Service, unless Brian White’s ‘worshippers’ are saying that he is now the Commissioner General,” said Baine.
Baine confirmed that renovation works at Luzira are ongoing ahead of the pass out of the Prisons Service trainees slated for January 18th 2018.
“Naturally, when you are going to receive visitors, it is important that you put your house in order. So all the renovations, change of diet and other things going on, are going on because it is our planning and program. They have nothing to do with Kirumira (Brian White),” Baine noted.
“And to Brian White’s promoters, this populist kind of reporting does not ease Brian’s case. It can’t ease it in any way, he will have to face Justice,” he further said.
Baine also asked the general public to “stop misusing Social Media and computer,” which he said could land them into trouble.
Brian White is accused of shooting a one Victor Bitwire at his home in Buziga, Kampala in December 2017.
He has been on remand at Luzira Prison since December 21, 2017 until Monday morning (January 8th, 2017) when he was released on bail.
