Six men who were recently caught preserving meat and fish with deadly chemicals have been sentenced to 8 months in Jail.
City Hall grade one magistrate Beatrice Kayinza sentenced Erias Katumba, Isa Ssenoga , Isma Mutebi, Umar Kalyango, Baker Mulondo and Ibrahim Ssekitto to jail on Thursday (January 11, 2018), dismissing their application seeking to change their earlier guilty plea.
Explaining why she gave a short sentence, the magistrate noted that the convicts were first time offenders and did not waste court’s time.
She advised the convicts to appeal to the sentence in case they were not satisfied with it.
“It is your right to appeal within 14 days from today,” she said.
The six men were arrested by officials from Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA)’s Public Health Team from Nankulabye, Ntinda and Nakasero Markets for selling meat and fish preserved with dangerous chemicals at their butcheries.
