During the festive season, people who work and reside in Kampala travel to their villages to enjoy and celebrate Christmas with their relatives and as a result, most of the bus and taxi operators use this opportunity to hike transport fares.
With just a week week to Christmas which is due to take place next week on Tuesday, transport fares have continued to shoot up almost every day on major routes from Kampala to different parts of the country.
The Tower Post’s Muhamad Matovu took an initiative to find out why the prices are being hiked and how much the operators are charging.
Mayanja Goloobe, the General Manager of Navel Bus Company said one of the reasons causing increase in transport fares is increase in fuel prices
“They have increased the price for fuel and when we take the passengers we come back when the bus is empty,” he said.
