Telecommunications company MTN Uganda has confirmed the news that two of their top management staffers have been arrested and deported.
The news which came out on Tuesday morning indicated that the telecom’s Chief Marketing Officer Olivier Prentout and Head of Sales and Distribution Annie Bilenge Tabula had been deported.
The two, according to Police publicist ACP Polly Namaye, are accused of engaging in activities which compromise National Security.
“On Saturday 19 January 2019, the MTN Uganda Chief Marketing Officer, Olivier Prentout was arrested by Police at Entebbe airport upon arrival from a business trip abroad,” the company wrote in a statement released on Tuesday afternoon.
“On the morning of Monday 21 January 2019, the MTN Uganda Head of Sales and Distribution Annie Bilenge Tabura was arrested by unidentified security personnel upon arrival at MTN Headquarter offices in Kololo Kampala.”
“Both Mr. Prentout and Mrs Bilenge have been deported from Uganda to their home countries,” MTN’s statement further confirms.
Prentout is a French National while Bilenge is a Rwandan National.
MTN didn’t divulge whether or not they had any knowledge of why the duo was deported.
They however committed to respecting Uganda’s laws in their operations.
