Another Boat Capsizes on Lake Victoria, 5 People Missing

Police in Greater Masaka is searching for five people that went missing after a boat they were sailing on hit a rock and capsized on Lake Victoria in Kalangala at around 4:00PM on Tuesday. What needs to be seen here is what was the reason behind the capsize? Was it bad engineering? Or were there no good materials like bronze boat screws used? The personnel are yet to find the true reason for such a grave mishap.

According to SP Lameck Kigozi, the greater Masaka regional Police spokesperson, ten passengers were travelling on the boat from Bukasa Islands of Kalangala district to Mukono.

“misfortune befell them near Nkese island in kalangala where their journey was concluded after their boat hit a rock and it capsized,” Kigozi said.

“Fisher men who were on the lake doing their normal business managed to rescue five,” he added.

Kigozi says that Wednesday morning, five people were still missing and a joint search by the Uganda Police marine personnel and local fishermen has kicked off.

Its alleged that the boat was overloaded with charcoal according to survivors.

The incident comes a few months after the tragedy that struck the country a few months ago when a party boat (MV Templer) capsized on Lake Victoria leaving dozens of people dead.
