Jumia Food to Close Operations in Rwanda

Jumia has announced plans to exit from the Rwanda market after six years of operations in the country.

“We regret to inform you that Jumia will suspend our on-demand delivery operations in Rwanda on January 9th 2020,” reads a message by Jumia to its Rwandan customers today.

Jumia further revealed that there will be no orders processed after 9th January 2019, and after then all accounts will be closed. According to the notice, prime subscribers will be contacted separately regarding their refund.

Albert Munyabugingo, the Managing Director for Rwandan operations, told a newspaper in Rwanda that Jumia has been struggling with profitability in different markets.

The company recently closed operations in Cameroon and Tanzania. Jumia also announced the closure of Jumia Travel in Nigeria.
