Aruu County MP Odonga Otto and Kilak North MP Anthony Akol on Thursday afternoon exchanged punches after a bitter argument at Parliament.
The two legislators engaged in a physical fight in the pigeon hall lobby after a disagreement regarding the Amuru land compensation.
This website understands that Akol told Otto about how he had some land in Amuru for which government compensated him with Shs 600 million.
However, Otto while in Amuru last weekend made the issue public when he revealed to Akol’s constituents that their MP had received Shs600 million.
Angered by this, Akol attacked Otto at Parliament and started punching him on the head.
“Akol started punching Otto on the head. Then Otto grabbed a chair to hit Akol only to beseparated by fellow MPs; Lyandro Komakech and Francis Mwijukye,” an eyewitness told this website.
Odonga Otto has since been rushed to Nakasero Hospital for treatment.
The Amuru land issue is a sensitive one and has caused conflict for several years.
The land is located south of the Zoka Forest in Amuru District, Acholi sub-region, and approximately 130Kms north-west of Gulu Town.
In 2006, the then Amuru District Land Board deemed that Land as a Public land and allocated it to Madhvani Group establish a sugar factory in the north, something that was opposed by the residents.
MP Odonga Otto has several times accused politicians of conniving with Madhvani and government to push for the take over of the said land.
