A police officer identified as Ojilong Ben on Tuesday (February 11, 2020) turned the gun to himself and committed suicide after he allegedly shot a colleague, Opito Alex.

According to Luke Owosigyire, the Kampala metropolitan police deputy spokesperson, the two had an arguement before it climaxed into firing bullets

“At about 03:25 PM at Bunamwaya Community Police Station in Makindye Sabagobo, Kampala, there was an unfortunate incident of a double murder and suicide,” reads a statement from Owesigyire.

“It is alleged that Police Constable No 53443 Ojilong had a heated argument with his colleague No. 30007 CPL Opito. Police Constable Ojilong picked his gun and shot Opito several times killing him instantly.”

Owesgyire says another officer attached to the Local Defence Unit personnel was injured in the process, and later pronounced dead on arrival at Kitebi Health Centre. Ojilong later committed suicide by shooting.

The bodies of the deceased have been taken to City mortuary Mulago for postmortem.
