The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) have withdrawn Retired Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde’s guards, the TowerPost has learnt.
Reports suggest that the guards were recalled over the weekend in Tumukunde’s absence. The guards are said to have packed all their belongings they had been keeping at Tumukunde’s home in Kololo and left.
The reason for this move by the army is not yet known. The UPDF is supposed to provide security for its generals both serving and retired.
Tumukunde formerly served as the security minister but was sacked by the President following endless bickering with Gen Kale Kayihura who was also dropped from the position of Inspector General of Police.
Tumukunde is said to be harbouring presidential ambitions to run against his former boss, President Museveni.
