#LockdownDiaries: Comedian Emeka UG’s Life During Lockdown

In the yet another episode of the #LockdownDiaries, we had a chat with standup comedian and events MC Collins Barieja aka Emeka UG.

Here’s how he is fairing on during the coronavirus lockdown.

I’m the most Romantic Mukiga

What’s your work situation like at the moment?

Well it’s good coz we’re working. I work in the media. So I’m assured of some ka money

Where are you living now and who is with you?

I’m living in Najjera and I live alone, maybe my hot neighbors

Describe your socializing strategy – How has it changed?

Well, I love making new friends, I love interacting with people on various issues. It’s changed in a way that people I meet online, I talk to them easily when we meet physically

How are you dealing with child care vs work?

Eeh.. I have no child. I’m my own child 😂

What are you reading?

Currently, I’m reading a book titled “What women want”

What are you listening to?

I’m listening to Mozey Radio, Juliana Kanyomozi and Blu*3

Have you ever run into LDU after curfew time?

Haaaaa, yes. I did but they let me go because they knew me.

What would you do if Curfew time caught you outside your home?

I’d run faster than Usain bolt. (laughs)

Do you own a bicycle?

I used to while I was in Primary School but now I don’t

How are you staying fit – Which exercises are you doing?

I walk, I walk from Najjera to Kiira, I also walk up to kyaliwajala, Kiwatule, Ntinda, Naalya.

Have you taken up a new hobby? Which one?

Comedy has always been my hobby and job. During this period, I make a lot of funny videos imitating public figures.

How are you getting your groceries?

I walk because it helps me exercise

Any tips for getting necessities while in this lockdown?

First tip, walk; second tip, walk… You can send a Boda guy though they have curfew time.

One Awkward moment since the lock down started?

My ex texted me and said “baby I miss you so much, send me some food”

How do you think this whole thing is going to end?

It will end in tears for the Coronavirus. We Ugandans have put up a good fight. Let’s continue following the guidelines from Ministry of health
