MP Zaake Drags Security Officers to Court Over Torture and Theft

Mityana Municipality Member of Parliament Francis Zaake has dragged seven security officers over alleged torture and theft.

In a suit filed in High Court Zaake says he was treated inhumanely. He says a lot of pain was inflicted on him by the security officers intentionally. His rights, he said, were abused and as a Member of Parliament, he was degraded.

Zaake was arrested on April 19 from his home in Mityana municipality for allegedly distributing food to his constituents which is against the presidential guidelines on Covid19.

In his suit, Zaake names Wamala Region Police Commander Bob Kagarura, Mityana district police commander Alex Mwiine and Elly Womanya, the commandant of the police’s Special Investigation Unit, Musa Walugembe, the officer in charge of the Special Investigation Unit, Abel Kandiho, the head of the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence and two others; Twesigye Hamdan and Mulungi Haruna Nsamba, as having contributed to his torture.

Zaake also wants the aforementioned to be found in contempt of court when they failed to release him despite the order from the Nakawa Chief magistrate.

He also wants the court to dismiss all criminal cases against him. Zaake wants to be compensated for the torture and suffering he has gone through.

The MP also says he lost 15million Shillings at his house which he suspects was stolen by the security officers who invaded his home.
