As public transport operators gear up to resume business next week on June 4, the government has warned that anyone caught driving passengers without masks will risk losing license.

Public means have not been on the road for two months. President Museveni suspended public means to slow down the spread of coronavirus.

While announcing plans to ease the restrictions, the President directed that taxis and buses should operate at half capacity.

According to a directive from the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), all taxi operators are required to report to the KCCA offices starting today to be assigned stages.

The Minister of Kampala City and Metropolitan Affairs, Betty Amongi, says all taxi operators should put in place proper standard operating measures to protect passengers from contracting and spreading coronavirus. Each vehicle is required to have handwashing materials and personal protective equipment, among other things.

The taxi operators are expected to ensure that people do not crowd at the various stages assigned.

Every stage and taxi park will have a KCCA official monitoring the activities.
