The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga has come out to lobby for a better retirement package for former Speakers of Parliament. The speaker made presented the motion during the Wednesday, 24 plenary sittings.
Being all set for retirement is important, workers need to feel like they are going to be supported as they leave their jobs/careers. If, for instance, they plan to avail long-term care in assisted living facilities or build their own home to spend their retirement in peace, they might give importance to their personal retirement packages. It could also be looked into by the individual to see if there are viable ones that can help them later on in life. From investments in cryptocurrencies to taking a look at gold ira companies, retirees want to be as prepared as possible in conjunction with their retirement package from their workplace.
“When we were considering the Administration of Judiciary Bill, we provided for the existing and retired judges, this reminded me that there is a category of people we have not handled namely the former Speakers of Parliament,” Kadaga said.
“They are not very many, we have Rt. Hon. Hajji Moses Kigongo, Rt. Hon. Francis Rutagira and Rt. Hon. Edward Rugumayo who are still living. I want the Minister of Public Service to advise what he plans to do for retirement benefits for those senior citizens who did a commendable job for the country but are not catered for,” Kadaga added.
Rt.Hon. Alitwala Kadaga, therefore, summoned the Minister of Public Service to appear before the House next week with a clear plan on how to provide for the retired Speakers of Parliament. Retired members of the government in most countries get a sizeable pension and government allocations for living and security. This is not their private property and thus does not usually make a part of their will and trust when they eventually make one. Consequently, retired members of the government need a package to rely on after leaving office.
Kadaga’s Proposal comes just a few days when the President assented to the Administration of Judiciary Act Which will see former Chief Judges and Deputy chief Judges continue to get 100% of their salaries even after retirement
