National Unity Platform president and also Kyadondo East Legislator Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has rubbished the recent opinion polls conducted by researchers that put the incumbent President Museveni in the lead to win the elections.

Kyagulanyi argued that the incumbent President was reading from the same notes he normally reads from when elections are approaching.

“Whenever we approach elections, he sponsors fake organisations to release fake opinion polls giving him an upper hand so as to pave way for his rigging machine,” Bobi Wine noted.

Kyagulanyi encouraged his supporters to remain alert as the election temperatures continue to rise. 

According to the polls, 47% of respondents said they would have voted for President Museveni if elections had been held in early March, a significant drop from the 60.8 per cent that the incumbent received in the 2016 elections, according to official figures collected from the Electoral Commission.

About twenty-two per cent Ugandans said they would have voted for NUP party president Kyagulanyi and 17 per cent would have voted for Forum For Democratic Change (FDC)Former party president Dr Kizza Besigye.

The findings are contained in the Uganda Governance Pulse, a new opinion poll conducted by Research World International, a local polling firm, on behalf of the Great Lakes Institute for Strategic Studies, a local think-tank, and the Independent Expert Peer Group of policy and public analysts.

Similarly, according to the opinion polls, President Museveni’s support is highest in eastern districts such as Bukedi, Lango and Tooro, among others and lowest in Buganda.

NUP president Kyagulanyi garners a lot of support in central districts such as Kampala, Wakiso, among others and lowest support in western districts of Uganda. 

Dr Besigye’s support was highest in Rwenzori and lowest in Lango.
