Presidential hopeful and National Unity Platform (NUP) party flag bearer Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi has instructed his legal team to work together with Omah Lay’s team to make sure they secure the release of the arrested Nigerian artistes.
“We have instructed our legal team to work together with the team that is trying to secure the release of Omah Lay because it continues to be a shame to Uganda and to us as the music fraternity,” Kyagulanyi said.
He was Tuesday afternoon addressing journalists after at the Electoral Commission offices along Jinja Road in Kampala.
Kyagulanyi had been summoned by EC Chairperson Justice Simon Mugyenyi Byabakama over reports that he was not following guidelines and SOPs in his campaign trail.
He said the arrest of Nigerian artistes Omah lay and Tems is not related to Covid19 but shame by the regime which he said acts on double standards.
“Truth is Omah Lay’s arrest isn’t about COVID. No! It’s an act of shame by a corrupt regime that operates on double standards,” he said.
“He obtained a work permit and performed under police protection! Why arrest him? This as pro-Museveni artists stage street concerts unmolested!” he added.
Whereas Bobi Wine has been castigated for not following Covid19 SOPs and holding rallies against the EC’s guidelines, he has counter blamed the Police and EC for watching over as President Museveni and other National Resistance Movement candidates hold rallies across the country.
