Six Remanded for Impersonating NWSC Officials to Rob Chinese Home

Six people who impersonated National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) workers and attacked a residence in Kyambogo, Nakawa Division have been remanded to Kitalya government prison.

They are Edson Musinguzi, Judith Mbabazi, Dan Buwoza, Joseph Mperese, Sostin Kamuzo and Wilson Kalyango.

The suspects appeared before Nakawa Grade One Magistrate Irene Akello who charged them with aggravated robbery.

Court heard that the suspects robbed a Chinese National Zhang Jin Jin 85 million shillings cash and 4,500 dollars on March 31st 2021 at Kyambogo lower Estate. 

The suspects who did not have legal representation were advised not to say anything in respect to the offences since they attract a maximum sentence of death upon conviction, and therefore can be tried by the high court.

The suspects were arrested two weeks ago after they were caught on camera posing as National Water Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) staff who wanted to check on the water system.

According to police, one of the suspects grabbed the Chinese cook and strangled him.

The suspects also grabbed a maid and tied their victims in a room and stole the money kept in another room before they fled.

Judith Mbabazi, the female suspect seen in a video during the attack was arrested in Ntungamo District where she was constructing a house for her parents, reportedly using part of the robbed money.

Mbabazi led police to other suspects who were arrested in a guest house in Bundibugyo District as they planned to travel to the Democratic Republic of Congo to carry out another robbery.

The suspects were remanded up to May 13 to Kigo and Kitalya government prison.
