Taban Amin Tampo Jegejege, a grandson to fallen Ugandan dictator Idi Amin Dada, has been thrown out of Parliament after Court of Appeal on Tuesday nullified his election.
Three Justices of the Court of Appeal Steven Kavuma, Cheborion Barishaki and Paul Mugamba ruled in favour of Taban’s challenger Sam Amooti Otada.
Court has also ordered fresh polls in Kibanda North in Kiryandongo, and directed Taban and the Electoral Commission to pay Otada’s court costs.
The judges upset a decision by Masindi High Court Judge Elizabeth Nahamya that had upheld Taban’s election.
Court ruled that Taban had failed to prove that he was registered as a voter in Kibanda North.
Taban’s name appeared on the National Voters’ Register as Amin Tampo; on his National ID he is Taban Idi Amin; on his nomination form, academic documents and passport he appears as Idi Taban Amin.
