Calvary – SC Villa Clash Abandoned at Halftime

The Uganda Premier League match between Calvary FC and SC Villa was abandoned at halftime on Monday at Midigo Stadium after match officials cited serious concerns over match control, safety, and security in the stadium environment.

SC Villa were leading 1-0 courtesy of a first-half goal from Frank Ssebuufu when the teams went into the halftime break.

Heavy rainfall delayed the restart, and the situation deteriorated further when a section of home fans turned violent.

Referee Lucky Kasalirwe and his assistants assessed the conditions and ultimately decided not to resume the second half.

The Uganda Premier League secretariat confirmed the abandonment and stated that a full decision will be made following receipt and review of the referee’s official report.

“An official statement will be released in the aftermath of the referee’s report,” the league secretariat said.

Calvary remain anchored at the bottom of the table with just 5 points from 19 matches and are still searching for their first win in their debut top-flight season.

SC Villa stay on 35 points pending the league’s final ruling.

A win would have lifted them to second place, one point behind leaders Vipers.

Looking ahead, SC Villa will host Express FC on Friday, March 7 at Kadiba Stadium and Calvary will welcome Maroons FC on Monday, March 10 at Midigo Stadium.

The abandonment adds to a challenging campaign for Calvary, who have struggled defensively and offensively throughout the season.

For SC Villa, the result — if upheld as a draw or otherwise adjusted — represents a missed opportunity to close the gap at the top of the table.

Further updates are expected once the Uganda Premier League secretariat releases its official position following the referee’s report.
