Centenary Bank Reaffirms Commitment to Community Impact at Rotary District Conference

Centenary Bank, the leading commercial microfinance bank in Uganda, has reaffirmed its longstanding commitment to community transformation and sustainable development through its participation in the 101st Rotary District Conference, a key platform that brings together leaders, partners, and changemakers dedicated to service and impact.

Speaking at the conference at Imperial Resort Beach Entebbe, the Managing Director of Centenary Bank, Mr. Fabian Kasi emphasized the shared values between the Centenary Bank and Rotary, noting that the conference theme of inspiring, connecting, and energizing Rotarians closely aligns with the essence of meaningful partnerships.

“As I reviewed the purpose of this conference – to inspire, connect, and energize Rotarians for greater impact, it struck me that this is exactly what partnerships require. Spaces like this allow ideas to be shared, partnerships to be strengthened and allow us to discover what more can be done together,” he said.

Centenary Bank’s partnership with Rotary remains one of the most impactful collaborations. This year the bank has contributed UGX 280 million for the 3 conferences; UGX 100 million each to the two Rotary Uganda Districts and UGX 80 million to Rotary Africa Zone.

Since 2011, the bank contributed over UGX 5 billion towards Rotary initiatives, with a significant focus on cancer awareness and treatment. Over the years, this partnership has delivered tangible outcomes, including support towards the construction of the Rotary-Centenary Bank Cancer Ward, sponsorship of the Rotary Cancer Run for 13 consecutive years, installation of cancer treatment bunkers, distribution of cancer testing kits to health facilities across the country and supported medical camps to extend services closer to communities.

“Beyond cancer, our partnership spans several impactful areas such as support to the Mengo Blood Bank, youth empowerment through Vijana Powa, support for school construction and hospital equipment, financial literacy initiatives, tree planting and environmental conservation efforts, supporting presidential installations, among others,” Kasi noted.

In a move to further deepen its culture of service, Centenary Bank established the Rotary Club of Mapeera in 2025, embedding Rotary values within its workforce and strengthening employee participation in community initiatives.

The Rotary District 9213 Governor, Geoffrey Martin Kitakule, said through collective effort, Rotary District 9213 has remained a beacon of hope, compassion and meaningful change. “From advancing education and improving access to clean water, to supporting healthcare initiatives and empowering youth, our work has touched lives for many who might otherwise have been forgotten. These are not just projects, they are lifeline opportunities and renewed hope for a better future,” he said.

Centenary Bank continues to play a pivotal role in advancing financial inclusion particularly for, youth, women and refugees. With a network of 81 branches, 214 ATMs, over 3,400 employees, and more than 9,000 agents nationwide, the Bank has steadily expanded its reach while maintaining strong financial performance. It currently ranks as the second most profitable bank in Uganda, with a Profit After Tax of UGX 424.8 billion and total assets of UGX 8.6 trillion.

Every year, the bank commits 1.5% of its previous year’s profit to corporate social responsibility initiatives that aim to uplift the community in areas of education, health, environmental stewardship, the social mission of the Church and broader community development initiatives.
