Security Operatives Seal Off Speaker Among’s Office, Office of the Clerk to Parliament as Corruption Probe Intensifies

In a dramatic escalation of investigations targeting outgoing Speaker Anita Annet Among, security operatives have Tuesday morning sealed off her official office at Parliament as well as the office of the Clerk to Parliament, Adolf Mwesige Kasaija.

A team of detectives and President Museveni’s auditors carried out the operation, citing ongoing corruption investigations. Parliamentary staff attached to the two offices have been instructed not to report to work until further notice.

The move comes just days after security agencies raided multiple residences linked to Among, including properties in Nakasero, Kigo, and Kololo, where luxury vehicles — such as a Rolls-Royce and Range Rover — were seized as part of probes into alleged illicit enrichment, money laundering, and abuse of office.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that the sealing of the Clerk’s office may be linked to reports that secretaries were allegedly ordered to destroy crucial documents. These reportedly include parliamentary commission minutes that could serve as key evidence in the investigations.

The development has intensified speculation about a wider clean-up operation within Parliament’s administrative structures as the 12th Parliament prepares to elect new leadership.

Outgoing Speaker Anita Among recently withdrew from the race for re-election amid mounting pressure from the probes. The investigations, which involve the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), UPDF elements, and auditors, focus on Among’s rapid wealth accumulation during her tenure, questionable financial transactions, and possible violations of the Leadership Code.
