The situation at local publishing house, Pepper Publications Limited continues to grow tense and worse by the day.
Barely three months after the suspension of their Tabloid, Hello, editorial staffers at Namanve office have laid down tools over unpaid salary arrears.
Emulalu and Akapapula papers which targeted Eastern Region readers and sports fans respectively were also suspended.
Sources inside the publication staff told The Tower Post that workers from all publications have gone on a sit-down strike so as to have their cry heard.
By publication time, only top editors were at work while the rest of the desks were idle.
“We have not received any salary for the last 4 months but the company is continuously making revenues,” said a source who preferred to speak anonymously.
The strike comes amidst complaints by field reporters who had threatened industrial action although it was unsuccessful.
The struggle is however visible through the reduced volume of the publication and social media complaints against the same over plagiarism.
The strike also comes in the wake of a mass exodus of workers from accounting, editorial, administration and other departments of the same publication.
They would later make a call, seeking interns to fill the gaps.
“The issue is that our bosses continue to buy expensive rides and plots of land while we hassle without salaries which we work for,” the source confided in The Tower Post.
He said they are withholding their work which they are unwilling to submit lest they get their monies paid.
Efforts to get a comment from the top administrators were all futile as they could not pick our calls.
When contacted, Redpepper Assistant Editor, Richard Kintu denied any knowledge of the impasse.
“That is not true. All staff members are working now,” Kintu said on phone.
