A committee to look into the factions in the Democratic Party (DP) has started work as internal bickering threatens to tear apart Uganda’s oldest political party.
The friction in the party centres on the ‘Bad DP’ of Mukono Municipality MP and vice president for Buganda, and Party President General Norbert Mao’s ‘Good DP’.
Polly Mukiibi will head the probe committee, and will be deputized by Deogratias Hasubi Njoki while Regina Bakitta will be the secretary.
According to Mao, who Nambooze accuses of reportedly scheming to sell DP to three-decade President Yoweri Museveni, the Mukiibi-led committee was picked by the National Executive Committee.
“The committee pledges its total impartiality and confidentiality in the execution of the assignment and I believe that they will surely give us the results we have been longing for,” Mao told reporters in Kampala on Tuesday
“The committee will question stakeholders also seek the views of the past leaders of the party, the leaders in the branches of the party, the ordinary members and others… Any one is free to get in touch with any of the committee members or they can register at the party secretariat.”
