Bodies of Ugandan Soldiers Killed in Somalia Arrive on Wednesday

Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs Adolf Mwesigye has told Parliament that the 12 bodies of UPDF soldiers killed in an Al-Shabaab ambush on Sunday in Somalia will be brought back home tomorrow.

The remains of the fallen soldiers will land at Entebbe International Airport tomorrow at 13:30 (1:30pm) local time, Mwesigye told Parliament on Tuesday.

“Heavy casualties were inflicted on the enemy but it’s sad we also lost 12 soldiers. Their bodies were immediately removed and taken Mogadishu to await a return home and be accorded decent burials,” he said.

Mwesigye maintained the figure at 12 although local administration and international media have put the figure as high as 38 for all the AMISOM troops killed.

There are also reports that some of the soldiers are still being held by terrorists.

Mwesigye has been tasked to return to the house with names and details of the killed soldiers.
