CALCULATIONS: How Uganda Can Still Qualify for the 2018 World Cup

The hopes of Uganda qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia were hit by a huge blow following the Egyptian Pharaohs’ 1-0 victory over the Uganda Cranes in the second leg game of the World Cup Qualifiers played at the Borg El Arab stadium in Alexanderia on Tuesday night.

Egypt’s win put it at the top in Group E of Africa’s World Cup Qualifiers with 9 points while Uganda is currently in second place with 7 points.

However, Ugandan soccer fans would want to see their National Football Team Qualifying for the World Cup and the good news is; there is still a chance.

Here’s how:

The Uganda Cranes are still left with two games to play; a home match against Ghana on 7th October, 2017 and then finish with an away match against Congo Brazzaville.

Winning both games will put the Uganda at 13 points in Group E but still, the Cranes fate will depend on Egypt’s performance. The Egyptian Pharaohs are also left with two games to play (Congo and Ghana).

If the Egyptian Pharaohs won their remaining two games, it would put them at 15 points, two points ahead of Uganda (if the Cranes also beat Ghana and Congo).

It will be remembered that only the winner in Group E and winners in the other groups will qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

According the some soccer analyts that this website has talked to, there are higher chances of Egypt beating Congo but might face difficulty while facing Ghana, who also still have a chance (although small) of qualifying for the World Cup.

Ugandans would therefore have to pray that the Cranes beat Ghana and Congo, and that Egypt loses to or draws with Ghana in the remaining games.
