Makerere Starts Search for Vice Chancellor as Prof Ddumba-Sentamu’s Term Ends

With just five months to the end of Prof John Ddumba-Ssentamu as Makerere University vice chancellor, Council has started the process to search for an eligible official to fill the office.

University council, the institution’s supreme governing body, met Thursday in the  Council Room to discuss the process.

Chaired by Eng Dr Charles Wana Etyem, council nominated Wana-Etyem’s deputy Irene Ovonji Odida and appointments committee chairperson Bruce Balaba Kabaasa as council representatives to search committee.

The Tower Post has learnt that three other members will be appointed in a fortnight.

Prof Ddumba took office on September 1, 2012. His five-year term ends on August 31. Although Ddumba still has a chance to be selected to the same office, it is unclear if he will seek re-election.

At last month’s 67th graduation ceremony, he thanked chancellor for an opportunity to serve in the VC office.
