Security minister Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde has revealed that some 11 million sim-cards have been verified, about 10 days to the May 19 deadline for sim-card registration.
Lt Gen Tumukunde spoke to reporters at Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) offices in Bugolobi along side UCC boss Eng Godfrey Mutabazi.
Tumukunde also explained that details for two million sim-cards were yet to be verified by National Identification and Registration Authority (Nira).
The minister also ruled out another extension: “The deadline for deactivation of unregistered sim-cards is May 19, 2017. For that matter, I don’t think we will have any issues or complaints.”
