Vice-President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi was on Monday (May 8th) laid to rest in Masaka.
The late Nabukalu Virigo Kiwanuka passed away on Saturday (May 6th) at the age of 101.
Her burial was attended by a number of government officials, family members and friends.
First Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Leader of Government Business in Parliament, Gen. Moses Ali, represented President Museveni at the burial and read out his condolence message to the family of the Vice-President.
In his message, the President described the late Nabukalu as a person of great wisdom, community leader and an elder who contributed to the development of Uganda.
“Today the nation sends off a mother of great wisdom, community leader and an elder who contributed to the development of Uganda,” said President Museveni in his letter.
“Mothers play a great role in rising, molding and general upbringing of children. We pay tribute to Maama Virigo Nabukalu for her contribution to nation building through raising her children who have contributed greatly to the development of Uganda. I have no doubt that she made His Excellency Edward Sekandi what he is now. As a nation, we recognize that great contribution,” the President added.
The Speaker of Parliament, Hon Rebecca Kadaga and the Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah among other dignitaries attended the burial.
