PHOTOS: Grief as Family Members, Friends Attend Semwanga Requiem Mass

A requiem mass was held for fallen Ugandan businessman and socialite Ivan Semwanga at Namirembe Cathedral on Monday (May 29, 2017).

Semwanga died on Thursday May 25th at Steve Biko Academic Hospital in Pretoria where he had been admitted for 12 days after suffering from a stroke that left him paralyzed.

The mass was attended hundreds of mourners including Semwanga’s ex-wife Zari Hassan and their 3 sons, government officials, family members and friends.

Some of the big names that were present include, State Minister for ICT and Kayunga Woman MP Hon. Aidah Nantaba representing government, Kwagalana Tycoon Godfrey Kirumira, singers Bebe Cool and King Saha among others.

Speaking at the mass, Kwagalana Tycoon Kirumira described the late Semwanga as a generous person, who helped many Ugandan youths.

“He was very generous. He helped many Ugandan youths to find jobs in South Africa and employed many others on his various projects especially his schools,” said Kirumira.

Kirumira also urged Zari to work together with the Ivan’s brother George Semwanga, who he (Kirumira) says worked a lot with the deceased and has a lot of knowledge about his businesses.

Zari, while giving her speech vowed to raise her children and take good care of Ivan Semwanga’s businesses.

“I am not mourning Ivan Semwanga but rather celebrating his life. I promised to take good care of our children and his businesses,” Zari said.

Ivan Semwanga’s family members and close friends while speaking to mourners at the mass described the late as a generous person and thanked everyone that stood with them ever since Ivan was announced dead.

Ivan Semwanga will be laid to rest on Tuesday at his ancestral home in Kayunga.
