VIDEO: Besigye Lists Land He Claims Museveni Grabbed

Uganda’s opposition kingpin Dr Kizza Besigye has listed some of the chunks of land he claims Uganda’s three-decade leader Yoweri Museveni has either grabbed or dished out to selfish investors.

Besigye made the claims while appearing on Freedom FM radio in a show in which he poked holes in Museveni’s ongoing radio shows on land.

Besigye had earlier been blocked from Voice of Kigezi (VOK) in Kabale where he had paid to appear.

Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party presidential candidate Mugisha Muntu was also blocked from appearing on Hope Radio in Kabale earlier in the week reportedly because Museveni was appearing on VOK in the same town.

Both Muntu and Besigye are from the FDC. Besigye has challenged Museveni at the ballot four times.

Blocked from VOK, Besigye secured airtime on Freedom FM Friday night and launched an attack on Museveni, listing land chunks the three-decade ruler has handed out to investors who have gone ahead to rent or sell it.

“There was also Shimoni Demonstration School where teacher trainees would do their school practice from. There was also Shimoni Primary School at the heart of Kampala City. This land belonged to the people. The schools hosted over 4,000 students,” Besigye explained.

The land Besigye talked is now owned by tycoon Sudhir Ruparelia who is currently renting out the land from which schools were demolished to pave way for the construction of hotels for hosting the 2007 Commonwealth Heads of

Government Meeting (CHOGM) guests, Besigye added.

Besigye listed other grabbed pieces of land as Butabika Mental Hospital, Luzira Prisons land, UPDF land, some schools’ land, Uganda Railways land, Workers land and government ranches.

“There is a farm in Kiryandongo. Ask Museveni who owns that land which used to belong to government. How did it change hands? Did they put up an announcement so Ugandans can apply for it? How is government land being given away?”

“They have stolen government land and are now stealing private land. These are facts. They are not lies.”
