Kadaga Okays Raphael Magyezi’s Age Limit Removal Motion

Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has given a green light to a motion by Igara West MP Raphael Magyezi seeking to delete article 102b of the constitution to allow three-decade president Yoweri Museveni stand for reelection beyond the age of 75 – and most likely rule for life.

Speaker Kadaga first ordered opposition MPs to put off the red ribbons they had put on in protest of NRM’s age limit removal plot.

She then announced she would have the order paper amended to include eligible private members’ bills.

Two bills would be tabled: Raphael Magyezi’s motion on age limit and Workers’ MP Sam Lyomoki’s Museveni succession bill.

“For a long time, we have been asking government to bring constitutional amendments in vain. I will now allow members to move for the amendments,” she said.
