Two Years Later, Machar Back in Juba for Peace Celebration

South Sudan’s main opposition leader Riek Machar has Wednesday morning arrived in the country’s capital Juba, more than two years after he fled on foot into exile.

Machar returned to the country to take part in the peace celebration today.

The opposition leader is leading a small delegation. He was received at Juba Airport by Presidential Adviser for Security Affairs Tut Gatluak.

The peace deal signed on 12 September will see the creation of a new unity government after eight months, with Riek Machar reinstated as first vice president, one of five vice presidents.
