MTN Uganda, Salam TV Donate to Kasana Health Center IV, Bagalana Masjid Mosque in Luwero

As Ramadan enters its third week, Muslim faithful in the country are still receiving alms as part a joint Ramadan campaign by MTN Uganda and Salam TV.

In two separate ceremonies on Monday afternoon, MTN Uganda and Salam TV donated items to Kasana Health Center IV & Bagalana Masjid Mosque in Luwero District, Central Uganda.

The items donated included sugar, rice, prayer mats, Islamic tunic/garbs, cooking oil, wheat flour, bar soap, fruit juice, Qurans and salt.

MTN Uganda released the following statement at the handover:

“Fasting during the holy month is one of the five pillars of Islam, which also include prayer and charity. MTN Uganda takes pleasure in joining Muslims from all over Uganda in carrying out various acts of charity throughout the holy month of Ramadan”.

“As a caring corporate company, we find it not only our right but also our responsibility to give back to our local communities and most especially those in need such as the vulnerable, the unfortunate and those who are unwell. We wish the Ugandan Muslim community a peaceful Ramadan season”.

Luwero District is bordered by Nakasongola District to the north, Kayunga District to the east, Mukono District to the southeast, Wakiso District to the south, and Nakaseke District to the west.

Luwero District a bubbling trade and agriculture driven District that hosts Bugema University, Ndejje University, Kampala University, Bamunanika Palace (one of the palaces of the Kabaka of Buganda).

It is also the headquarters of the Uganda Land Forces, a unit of the Uganda People’s Defence Force and Bombo Military Hospital, one of the two military hospitals in Uganda (the other being Mbuya Military Hospital).

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting to commemorate the first revelation of the Quran to Muhammad according to Islamic belief.

Muslims are expected to put more effort into following the teachings of Islam with the fast beginning at dawn and ending at sunset.

Throughout Ramadan, MTN Uganda and Salam TV will conduct various activities to engage with Muslims all over Uganda.

Salam TV is the first and only Islamic TV Channel in Uganda. It is part of Next Media Services group of companies.

MTN Uganda and Next Media Services have been instrumental in supporting people-led initiatives over the last few years.
