Safaricom Chief Executive Officer Bob Collymore is dead.
In a statement sent to newsrooms, the largest mobile service provider said the CEO passed away at his Nairobi home on Monday morning.
In October 2017, Bob Collymore took a leave to seek treatment for acute myeloid leukemia and resumed duties in July 2018.
“He has been undergoing treatment for this condition since then in different hospitals and most recently at Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi.”
“In recent weeks, his condition worsened and he succumbed to cancer at his home in the early hours on Monday.”
The Guyanese born British Corporate boss leaves behind a wife, Wambui Kamiru and 4 children.
“On behalf of the board of SAFARICOM PLC, we extend our deepest condolence to his family, partners and the nation at large who hr served selflessly and with joy,” said Safaricom chairman Nicholas Nganga
Collymore has been at the helm of Safaricom since 2010 when he took over from the then CEO Michael Joseph.
