Reports coming in indicate that a one-day-old baby has died after police firing tear gas in a house where the baby was sleeping. The police fired the teargas to disperse Bobi Wine’s supporters in Kasangati where the Kyadondo East legislator was blocked from holding a consultative meeting.
The baby was rushed to a hospital, but according to Daily Monitor reporter Derrick Wandera, the baby is feared dead.
Bobi was okayed by the Electoral Commission to hold his consultative meetings across the country. Police, however, says the venue he chose for his first doesn’t have a toilet.
People Power Spokesperson wrote on his Twitter protesting the manner in which police is treating them, “We observed the law & followed everything the authorities asked us to fulfil, but clearly they don’t want us to interact with Ugandans.”
Journalists and various political leaders have been arrested.
