The Uganda People Defense Forces (UPDF) has recalled   2,752 veterans or members of the reserve force, to be deployed in Somalia. According to a communiqué by Lt Gen Charles Otema he UPDF will conduct a four day countrywide call up of 2,752 reservists starting from January 20, 2020.

Only those that retired honourably will be considered. Otema said the call up is aimed at supporting the veterans. “They will be able to earn something from their mission.”

“The mobilized will form Uganda Battle groups thirty-one and thirty-two to augment UPDF operations Under African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

Rumours in the corridors have been circulating that the veterans were recalled to stop other politicians from using them, but Otema denied the claims.
