Pastors, Followers Arrested for Breaching President’s Directives On Public Gatherings

Two pastors and twenty-six members of the congregation were on Sunday arrested by the security Inter-Agency Joint Taskforce for defying the President’s directives on public gatherings. The President suspended public gatherings for 32 days in the country as a measure of stem the spread of coronavirus.

The 28 suspects were picked from two places in Kampala as they congregated for Sunday prayers. Pastor Immaculate Biyinzika of Praise Jesus Worship Center in Kajjansi, Wakiso district and pastor Moses Baker of Alter Truth Ministries of Komambogo,Kyanja a Kampala suburb were picked together with their followers after the police were informed about their activities.

According to Kampala Metropolitan police mouthpiece, Patrick Onyango, Pastor Biyinzika tried to resist arrest on defence that she was conducting prayers with her family members which police established was far from the truth, Biyinzika was collecting offertory from the flock.

The President has in the past issued a number of guidelines in an attempt to fight the fast spreading coronavirus among which include halting public gatherings, public means, and so on.

Uganda, as of Monday has 33 cases of coronavirus.
