MP Zaake Arrested for Distributing Relief Food

Mityana Municipality Member of Parliament (MP) Francis Zaake has been arrested by the police in Mityana for allegedly distributing food to people in his constituency.

According to Wamala region police spokesperson, Rachel Kawala, the MP is being kept at Mityana central police station for defying the president’s directives.

Zaake announced on his social media hands that he was being arrested,“The tormentors have broken into my home, they are breaking every door of my house searching to arrest me for the crime of sharing food with the starving people. Sad!”

Issuing guidelines to help fight the spread of coronavirus, President Museveni warned politicians against distributing relief food. He said whoever would go against the guidelines would be charged with attempted murder.

The President asked people to hand over food items or other donations to the task force.

Opposition politicians have, however, described the directive as a political move.

People Power Leader Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) recently donated through the taskforce.
