Government Issues New Measures for Truck Drivers

The government of Uganda has introduced new measures to be followed by cargo trucks drivers.

After a stakeholders meeting held in Kampala on Friday, the government decided that only one driver per truck will be allowed into the country to limit transmissions of coronavirus. There will be no turn driver or any other spare driver in the truck.

The new measures follow the increasing number of truck drivers testing positive for coronavirus.

Ms Robinah Nabbanja, the State Minister of Health in charge of General Duties, told the press that the policy is already being implemented as companies recruit Ugandan drivers.

Nabbanja also added that only essential commodities will be allowed into the country.

Uganda has registered more than 15 imported cases in a period of less than a week. This has left many Ugandans worried about their health and undermining their efforts in fighting the novel coronavirus.
