Jinja Resident District Commissioner Eric Sakwa has been released from prison on a non-cash bail. Sakwa’s bail application was heard by Jinja Chief Magistrate, Jessica Chemeri through video conferencing technology.
Chemeri said she was satisfied with the sureties presented saying that they are credible members of society and will present Sakwa in court when he is needed.
Sakwa’s sureties are; Jinja Mayor Majidu Batambuze, the LC5 Chairman, Titus Kisambira, Butembe County MP, Nelson Lufafa, and Kagoma County MP Moses Walyomu Muwanika.
The State prosecutor tried to argued that Sakwa is not granted bail but this turned out to be a futile attempt.
Sakwa was arrested on April 24 following constant complaints of torture bribery and robbery. He is accused of torturing a resident named Charles Isanga who died as a result of Sakwa’s torture helped by his officers.
Sakwa, however, denies the claims.
