Uganda’s Cases of Coronavirus Jump to 160 as 21 Truck Drivers Test Positive

21 truck drivers have tested positive for coronavirus pushing the number of confirmed cases in Uganda to 160.

The new cases include: Ugandans, Kenyans, Tanzanians and South Sudanese who arrived via Mutukula, Busia and Elegu borders

They n are part of the 1,896 samples from truck drivers that were tested on Thursday. 100 truck drivers have so far tested positive for coronavirus in Uganda. Efforts are ongoing to ensure there are no more imported cases, but the challenge at hand is that truck drivers cannot be stopped from going about their job since they transport essential commodities.

303 samples were tested from the community on Thursday, all of which tested negative for COVID-19. The Ministry is currently conducting a rapid assessment exercise in the community which will guide the government on lifting the lockdown.

The Minister for Health Dr Ruth Aceng said on Wednesday that there is no evidence of community transmission so far.
