South Sudan Vice President Riek Machar and his wife Angelina Teny, who serves as the country’s defence minister have tested positive for coronavirus.
Riek announced on Monday that he had tested positive along with a number of his bodyguards He said he would self-isolate at his home until doctors say he is fine to return to work.
The number of infections in South Sudan currently stands at 347, with six deaths.
Restrictions on road transport, taxis and regional flights were lifted earlier this month.
Machar had been serving on the task force fighting COVID19 in the country but was removed by Salva Kiir. Many other politicians were removed after fears that they were infected emerged.
Machar is said to be asymptomatic and is in fine health.
