The Uganda Defense Forces (UPDF) has resolved to re-engage the Local Defense Unit following an increase in night crime.
According to a statement released by the UPDF, members of the public have been requesting for the return of the LDU to combat crime.
The re-engagement is in response to the pleas from the public.
The LDUs will resume operations only at night and shall also participate in intelligence led operations.
The unit was withdrawn to undergo refresher training which has been ongoing for a month or so.
The LDU shall not participate in day time enforcement of Ministry of Health Covid-19 prevention guidelines.
The public has been called upon to cooperate with the LDU officers.
