President Yoweri Tibuhaurwa Museveni has today commissioned the new Soroti main market in Soroti City, Eastern Uganda.
The market, according to the President’s media team has a total of 1,390 facilities which include stalls and retail stores.
“It is expected to create about 3,000 jobs for residents of Soroti, along the local trade and supply chain,” Museveni said.
The market will accommodate over 200 traders in a state of the art facility to foster trading and improve the shopping experience.
The market, is built under MATIP project that has built 21 markets in Kampala, Jinja, Mbale, Gulu, Lira, Hoima, Fort Portal, Entebbe, Masaka, Mbarara, Arua, Moroto, Soroti, Tororo, Kasese, Busia, Kitgum and Lugazi.
Museveni is still on his scientific campaign trail in the Teso region.
Earlier, the President commissioned a fruit factory that manufactures Teju Mango and Orange juice.
The factory which is owned by the Uganda Development Corporation – UDC is run by the Soroti Fruits Limited and the Uganda Investments Authority.
The factory produces juice from fresh fruits that are supplied by local farmers from the Eastern and Northern parts of the country.
