A group of youths in Lira City have expressed anger and dissatisfaction in a way that the National Unity Platform has abandoned their colleagues who were arrested as Presidential hopeful Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine campaigned in the area.
During his campaign trail in Lira District, scores of Bobi Wine’s supporters were arrested and detained for obstructing police officers on duty.
This followed a standoff between Bobi Wine’s team and the Police which lasted for hours after the Presidential candidate was blocked from accessing a campaign venue in Alebtong District.
Another group was arrested following running battles with Police who were trying to stop them from vandalizing campaign materials of ruling National Resistance Movement candidates on Wednesday November 1tth.
Since their arrest, the youths led by Self-proclaimed Ghetto President of Lira Nicholas Obuttu have sought audience with NUP party leaders to pave way for the release of their colleagues but have not been given audience,
This, Obutu said is what forced them to seek help from government officials seeing as their party principal had abandoned their colleagues.
He told deputy speaker of Parliament
Obutu told Deputy Speaker Jacob Oulanya who is also NRM’s Vice Chairperson for Northern region that NUP has not been paying attention to their challenges which is one of the reasons they have openly chosen to seek help from government officials.
Prior to meeting Oulanya, the group stormed Lango regional NUP office at Odokomit trading centre in Lira City. They burnt the red attires before they started chanting NRM slogans and running around with Museveni’s posters.
