Museveni Calls Off Mukono Campaign Meetings Over EC Directives

President Yoweri Museveni who is also the Presidential flag bearer for the ruling National Resistance Movement – NRM has called off his campaign meetings in Mukono District which were slated for Monday December 28th.

This follows a suspension by the Electoral Commission of any campaigns in over 20 areas where cases of Covid19 are on a surge.

The places include Kampala, Wakiso, JInja, Mukono, Tororo among others.

“Our campaign meeting in Mukono that was scheduled for today is off because of the Electoral Commission directive banning political gatherings in some districts. Instead, I will address our people through radio and TV this evening,” Museveni said.

According to information from the NRM, the President will speak on all major radios in the reaching the Mukono area in Luganda.

Also as part of his activities for the day, the President will commission the 132kv Mukono substation which is meant to increase power supply in Mukono District.

Opposition Candidates Flout EC Directives.

Despite the directive by the Electoral Commission, some opposition candidates have maintained that they will continue with their campaigns as planned in all the districts.

Forum for Democratic Change – FDC presidential flag bearer is one of the candidates who have vowed to continue with their campaigns, an act that got him arrested while trying to campaign in Jinja yesterday.

Other opposition leaders have described the directive as a move by the state to frustrate their campaigns citing that they have massive support in the affected areas.
