Police Deploys at Uganda Media Centre as Journalists Storm Out of UPDF Presser

Police and Military officers have deployed heavily at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala following a demonstration by journalists against brutality.

This was during the press conference by the UPDF Political Commissar Maj Gen Henry Matsiko who was addressing the nation on the upcoming Tarehe Sita celebrations.

According to Brig Matsiko, the celebrations that will kick off in late January will be held in Masaka and some areas of Kampala.

The Demonstration

After Brig. Matsiko’s address, journalists put him to task to explain why their colleagues following NUP presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi are being brutalized and beaten up, asking him to issue an apology which he failed to.

They would all later unanimously storm out of the press room leaving the UPDF Commissar alone in the building.

In the midst of the standoff, UPDF spokesperson Brig Flavia Byekwaso made an effort to calm down the enraged journalists but her efforts were all futile.

By publication time, the Police was still deployed at the Clement Hill road based Uganda Media Centre.
