South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit returned to Juba on Wednesday morning after official visits to Djibouti and Uganda, where he attended the inauguration ceremonies of the two countries’ presidents.
Kiir arrived in Kampala on Sunday ahead of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s inauguration on Tuesday, during which Museveni was sworn in for a seventh term in office.
Prior to his Uganda visit, President Kiir attended the inauguration of Djibouti’s President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh on Saturday.
Guelleh was sworn in for a sixth consecutive term.
According to a statement from the Presidential Press Unit, Kiir held bilateral talks during both visits, focusing on regional cooperation, peace, and stability.
Upon arrival at Juba International Airport, Kiir was received by senior government officials, members of the ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), and supporters.
The crowd welcomed him with traditional dances and chants of “Salva Kiir, our President.”
