A total of eleven trafficked Karamojong Girls have been intercepted in Katakwi District, The Tower Post has learnt.
Police says that on the Monday August 16th, at around 07:30Hrs Cpl Malinga David received a phone call that a taxi registration number UBB 725J white in color was suspected to be transporting Karamajong teenage girls to an unknown destination where he intercepted the motor vehicle.
According to East Kyoga Police Spokesperson Oscar Gregg Agecca, a report of aggravated trafficking of persons was reported by Cpl Malinga David Police officer attached to Katakwi Central Police station and a case file was then opened vide Katakwi CRB 333/2021.
He said that, the Motor Vehicle was impounded and 11 persons between the ages of 11years to 15 years were found in occupancy of the motor vehicle.
Agecca also reveals that the police have arrested the driver of the motor vehicle one Samora Bashir, 53, a retired UPDF officer and resident of Amuria district.
He added that police has noted with concern the proliferation of Karamojong to various parts of the country by unscrupulous individuals, and thus made it a priority through NGOs and other security agencies to weed out the practice.
He has also called on individuals who are aware or suspicious of any activity that might be trafficking in persons to immediately call the police on Toll free lines 999 or 112.
He further reveals that the suspect has been arraigned before the courts of law at Katakwi and remanded to prison pending conclusion of legal process against him.
Police has also reunited the above minors with their respective relatives and families from Napak.
