CAF Club Competitions Preview, 10-12 February 2023

SuperSport viewers on DStv and GOtv can look forward to continental club action from the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup this weekend, with matches scheduled for Friday 10, Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 February 2023.

DStv and GOtv is the only true home of football in Africa, offering a range and depth of action that no other rival can match – it’s literally ‘Unbeatable Football’! If you’re going to spend your money on something, it may as well be on the best football in the world.

The action opens in the CAF Champions League on the early evening of Friday 10 February, starting off a Group D clash from the CAFCL pitting Egypt’s Zamalek against CR Belouizdad of Algeria at the Cairo International Stadium.

Saturday 11 February brings four further CAFCL matches. A double-header in the afternoon features South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns hosting Sudan’s Al Hilal in Tshwane, at the same time that Tanzania’s Simba SC visit Horoya of Guinea in Conakry.

Simba’s new coach, Roberto Oliveira, is hoping to get his side off to a winning start in the group phase: “I am happy because my objective is to build a strong team for the CAF Champions League,” said the Brazilian of recent results in their domestic campaign.

He added, “The most important thing is that my players understand my philosophy. Simba SC is a big team, we have to play well and win. I am happy the players believe in me and we are building good relationships between them and the technical bench.”

Early Saturday evening features Angola’s Petro de Luanda playing host to JS Kabylie of Algeria, while a night game from Morocco sees Raja Casablanca welcome Vipers of Uganda to Stade Mohamed V.

Sunday brings a trio of games from the CAF Confederation Cup, starting off in the afternoon with South African side Marumo Gallants taking on Libyan visitors Al Akhdar in Soweto, while two early-evening kick-offs feature Diables Noirs (Congo) and US Monastir (Tunisia) play host to Rivers United (Nigeria) and Young Africans (Tanzania).

Rivers coach Stanley Eguma believes his team has been disadvantaged by being forced to play their home matches in the CAFCC in Uyo rather than in Port Harcourt: “It’s a big minus to us, but we will not allow that to demoralise the team. As long as we are playing on the Nigeria soil, we see it as our home. Whether in Uyo, or Lagos or even Abuja, they’re all Nigeria soils. So, it’s our home and we have to take it like that.

“But it is unfortunate that we will not be playing in our traditional home in Port Harcourt which would have given us lot of advantages and confidence because that’s our fortress.”

No rival can compete with SuperSport’s coverage. Our viewers on DStv and GOtv enjoy an unrivalled selection of football from around the world!
